A Pretty Pair

I’m very proud of this new hat and scarf set, just finished today.

This is the “Leda” scarf, pattern by Pamela Wynne, done in ShiBui Knits sock, mulberry color; and the “#03 Beret” by Lori Steinberg, done in Plymouth Yarn Dye For Me Baby Llama Glow (hand-dyed with koolaide and food coloring) with an accent band of a double-strand of the ShiBui mulberry.  It is so pretty and so soft!  I love it!

My Giant Orange Nemesis is Defeated

Orange Nemesis

I started the “Braided Riding Jacket” from the Winter 2009 issue of Interweave Knits back in November of 2009.  I finished the bottom panel, which was quite fun, but gave up once I started on that awful wrapped stitch that the pattern calls for in the top and sleeves.  I tried substituting moss stitch but the gauge was way off, so after reknitting an entire sleeve three times over, I gave up.  This thing sat in a basket for most of the year, collecting lots of dust.  I finally found on Ravelry that several other knitters had been faced with my same dilemma and gave some decent tips on how to make the moss stitch substitution work.  I finally figured it out and it turned out quite nice, albeit incredibly orange.  I have no idea what ever posessed me to choose the color “carrot” for this project.

By the way, this is the color I painted the hallway back in March:

I swear it did look more like a peachy-tan in the store!  I figured it would dry lighter, so I had about half the stairway painted before I realized it really was this orange.  The good thing: it definitely makes the hall feel bigger and brighter.  The bad thing: it makes you feel like you’re staring at the surface of the sun!

Way Out, Man!

Ta-da!  Sam’s “Outer Space” afghan is finished, in plenty of time for Christmas.  The background is simple stockinette, and the planets are duplicate stitch.

Happy Halloween!

Sam & Halle Halloween 2010

Sam & Halle, Halloween 2010

Sam went as Iron Man this year.  Halle had a Nursery Rhyme Day for kindergarten a few days before Halloween, so I sewed up an “Itsy Bitsy Spider” outfit for her that doubled as her Halloween costume this year.

Sam 10-30-10This was Sam’s attempt at making his own Halloween costume, which made for a great picture, but would not have traveled well.

Spirit in the Sky

Cross in the Sky

A Sign From Above?

I came home from work today, kind of stressed out and worn out and generally down in the dumps.  When I pulled up in the driveway this morning, I saw this cross in the sky.

Here are some more great photos from a recent day trip to Granite Lake.

Granite 6-17-10 K

Sam really enjoyed our day at Granite, and so did Halle.

And, on the knitting front, I finished the Sideways Grande Cloche, and made a scarf with the same cable to match.

I’ve started an afghan for Sam.  He wants it “to be like outer space.”  We’ll see…

Cuteness!

A new picture of our new nephew, Jacob.  So adorable!

I finished the Red Summer Cardigan too.

Jacob is Born

Our new nephew, Jacob, was born.  Isn’t the adorable?

And here’s a picture of my adorable baby boy:

Yay! I actually finished a project!

This is the “Summer Cardigan” by Diane Soucy.  I spiced it up a bit by adding a geometric pattern I found in the Vogue Stitchionary Volume 1 on the bottom half.  Just needs blocked and buttons.

I’m casting on another one of these in bright red Peaches and Cream cotton yarn.  It’s a super easy pattern, top-down, and works up pretty fast.

More Yarn

Okay, so I was visiting my friend Penny at Ewe Count, jonesing for some yarn.  I ended up ordering this:

I couldn’t help it.  It’s Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, and the color’s called “Limelight.”  Isn’t it lovely?

Update

Poppy’s doing well, and so is Molly.  Molly got  her staples out, and all the dogs got their shots for the year while we were at it.  And now the vet can afford to keep his kid in college a couple more months!

We took a day trip to Loveland the other day, and I got this new yarn.

It’s Berroco Vintage Wool.  I bought it at Woolen Treasures in Loveland.  I’m casting on a top-down sweater pattern, “Summer Cardigan” by Diane Soucy.
