A Complimentary Pattern by Stephanie Miller of Blackbird Sycamore Yarn

A cuff-down sock with a knit and purl texture pattern on the leg and foot of the sock.
Sizes Small (Medium, Large)
For approximate foot circumference of 6 ¾ (7 ½, 8 ½) inches, or 17 (19, 21 ½) centimeters.
Use US size 1 (2.25 mm) needles or size needed to make correct gauge.
Gauge in Stockinette: 34 stitches x 48 rows = 4 inches
Cast on 56 (64, 72) stitches using a stretchy cast-on. (I recommend the German Twisted cast on.)
Place marker and join for working in the round.
CUFF RIBBING:
With Contrast Color (CC): K2, P2 in the round until cuff is desired length.
Samples above has 20 rows of ribbing.
LEG:
With Main Color (MC), work in Diamond pattern for desired length, ending after Row 4.
Row 1: Knit
Rows 2 & 4: K2, (P1, K3) (13, 15, 17) times, P1, K1.
Row 3: K1, (P3, K1) (13, 15, 17) times, P3.
HEEL:
Note: As you work the rows, carry the non-working yarn up the side of the heel flap by bringing the working yarn under the non-working yarn before working last purl stitch on even numbered rows.
Row 1) Using Contrast Color (CC), (S1, K1) to end.
Row 2) Using CC, Slip 1st stitch, Purl to end of row.
Repeat Rows 1& 2 a total of 16 times (32 rows total).
Break your CC yarn, then continue heel turn in MC.
HEEL TURN:
Row 1) Slip 1, K 16 (18, 20), SSK, K1, turn.
Row 2) Slip 1, P7, P2tog, P1, turn.
Row 3) Slip 1, knit to one stitch before gap, SSK, K1, turn.
Row 4) Slip 1, Purl to one stitch before gap, P2tog, P1, turn.
Repeat Rows 3 & 4 until all stitches across the heel flap have been worked.
Knit across heel and pick up 15 stitches along left SIDE of heel flap, then pick up one more stitch in the ladder between the heel flap and the instep. Place marker.
Continuing in texture patter, knit across instep (top) of sock. Place marker.
Pick up one stitch in the ladder between the instep and heel flap, then 15 stitches along the right SIDE of the heel flap.
Knit across heel to marker.
GUSSET:
Round 1 & 3) K1, SSK, K to last 3 stitches before marker, K2tog, K1.
K2, (P1, K3) seven times, P1, K1 across instep (top) of sock.
Round 2) Knit across gusset,
K1, (P3, K1) seven times, P3, across instep (top) of sock.
Round 4) K1, SSK, K to last 3 stitches before marker, K2tog, K1.
Knit across instep stitches.
Repeat rounds 1 – 4 until you have decreased to your original stitch count of 56 (64, 72) stitches, with 28 (32, 36) stitches for the instep (top) and for the foot (bottom) of the sock.
Continue knitting all stitches in the round until the foot of your sock measured from heel is 1 ¼ (1 ½, 1 ¾) inches or 3.2 (3.75, 4.5) centimeters shorter than your foot length.
TOE:
Round 1) K1, SSK, knit to the last three stitches of top of sock, K2tog, K1.
Repeat across bottom of sock.
Round 2) Knit all stitches around.
Continue rounds 1 & 2 until you have decreased to 16 stitches for top and 16 stitches for bottom of sock.
Graft stitches together using kitchener stitch.
Weave in ends.
Wash and block.
